We had great tasting, golden fried thick haddock filets at Pete's. The batter was just right for the size of the filet. Our fries were cooked perfectly; slightly crisp but not overdone. The Newcastle was ice cold, just perfect for a hot Cape Coral afternoon. The service was fast and friendly and Himself came out from behind the fryer to chat for a bit. A perfect place for an early dinner or late afternoon lunch.

Fantastic fish and chips. I mean. Fantastic. You can tell they change the oil and use good quality. We stuck with a small basket each and it hit the spot. Don't go here hoping to maintain your diet. There is nary a salad on the menu-and they should keep it that way! Great service too, really friendly from order to finish.

Food is excellent, However, customer satisfaction and service is 2nd to closing. Arrived at 7:15 pm ( they close at 7:30) and we refused service. I seen 12 customers leave without service. Maybe the owner was snoozing. Tom

Pete's Fish & Chips was great. Very friendly staff. Fish was very fresh and tasty. Although the fries are not homemade :( they were good. Husband and I throughly our first visit and will be back for another feed of fee and chee. It seemed they get alot of repeat business and knew many of the customers by first name.. I would recommend you try Pete's

Perfectly cooked, large thick pieces of real North Atlantic Cod, nice "thick chips!". Little to no grease and nicely homemade coleslaw. We arrived at exactly the wrong time on a Friday night (during a rain storm) and waited quite a while due to everyone else having the same idea, but when orders are made one at a time and served at once piping hot, you'll be glad you waited! They ran out of coleslaw, but found one for us to taste and graciously gave my wife and daughter Cadbury chocolate bars "on the house" as replacement. Proper English Chippie in Cape Coral! Well worth it!

I absolutely LOVE eating here. I stopped in for a quick lunch a few months ago and am so glad I did! The batter is amazing! I raved about it to my boyfriend, took him for dinner, and he was impressed as well. I've had the fish and chips, the combo meal with fish, chicken, and shrimp and I can honestly say it was all delicious. The shrimp are HUGE. Every time I've gone in to eat the service has been great. Prices are more than reasonable for the portions and quality of food. Highly recommend! :-)

The service and people who run this place were great. The fish and chips were mah. They aren't bad, but we didn't walk out of there thinking this was the greatest fish and chips we've ever had. Maybe for southwest Florida this is 5 star, but it's just ok.

I've been wanting to check this place out for some time. Finally did tonight with my wife, and four old. Being this first time there, I wasn't sure what to get. Fish, and chips, chicken, or shrimp? We ended up getting the Family Basket. It had a little bit of everything. Fish, chicken, shrimp, chips, coleslaw. Everything was delicious, and cooked to order. The fish, Atlantic cod was firm, and flaky. The shrimp were huge and lightly battered. The chicken was equally delicious. The coleslaw was very tasty. Tartar sauce, and cocktail sauce were great as well. I really got a kick out of owner\chef. Service was quick, and laid back. I could easily see this being a weekly spot. Great food, and Great people!!!

It's been about a year since we've been in and we were craving those fish and chips so we made a lunch date. Pete's Fish and Chips restaurant isn't a huge place, only about 8 tables to sit at. We entered the store and were greeted. I usually get the large fish and chips, but I decided on the #2 combo, which is the small fish and chips and a piece of chicken for $8.95. That's only 1 dollar more than the small fish and chips. We also got two cans of diet coke, which are $1.25 each, a little pricy in my eyes. It didn't take long at all for us to get our food. We ordered the spicy ranch to go with our chicken. It was delicious. The cole slaw was better today than I'd remembered in the past. I love their chips (French fries), they're so crispy and fresh. The fish was good, a little more oily than I'd remembered from the last time. I really liked the chicken, very juicy. After eating the #2 we were both stuffed. This place is a great, little restaurant with lots of different British items available for sale.

By FAR the best fish and chips in the Cape. Wish they'd offer more British beer or American craft beer. If you like good fish, this is the place for you. Only con is this place closes early!!!

Super friendly people at Petes - first time there so tried the fish & chips. It was the BEST fish & chips I've ever had. The breading was light & almost melted in your mouth. We will be going back soon!

Really good fish and chips! Nice batter, flaky fish cooked just right. Huge shrimp. And nice friendly staff.

Ate the Fish & Chips at Petes today it was absolutely delicious and very filling. Honestly the best I ever had . I had cole slaw on the side and coke. For 10 bucks you can't beat it for a very filling lunch I'm glad I sought the place out and Petes a salt of the earth type fella , I wish him continued success.

Read the reviews and had to come and see for ourselves. I had the "small" Fish & Chips. I have never had cod so lightly breaded before and it was grand. The filet was large in my opinion and the chips an easy medium portion. My bride had the shrimp wrap....awesome flavor and plenty of shrimp. This is a small neighborhood place and well worth the visit.

Here is my 2 cents on the food. Well the taste and quality is still there. Chips are crispy on the outside and hot/steamy on the inside. The fish is as good as ever. Crispy too, flesh is delightful ffor the taste buds. So if in The Cape and need to scratch that itch for fish & chips. This is the place. Good folks fast service Great all around.

Three of us went to Pete's at 6pm on a Friday, out of season. It was MOBBED with people, which was especially frustrating because I don't think they have air conditioning. Very little seating - you order at the counter and your food is brought to you. The "newspaper" is supposed to keep the fish crispy, but unfortunately the bottom of mine was soggy. The fries were good but nothing special. The staff seemed nice enough. As much as I wanted to love this place, I wasn't impressed. AND they close at 7:30pm every day, closed on Sundays. My favorite fish in SWFL is still Captain Cons in Bokeelia.

Was hankering for some fish and wanted something quick and not fancy. I saw the good reviews here on yelp and decided to give it a try. We are glad we did. I had the regular portion of fish and chips, which was just the right portion. The batter is very tasty. As others have stated, nice and light. The fries and coleslaw are both very good. My husband got the battered chicken. Good, but not as good as the fish. For two adult meals, a kids fish meal, and 3 drinks, we spent about $25.00 We will definitely be back. P.S. As others have mentioned, the place is very small (I think I only counted 6 tables) so it's probably a good idea to go off peak meal times.

Close your eyes as you enjoy your meal at Pete's Fish & Chips and you wouldn't be faulted for thinking you've been magically transported across the pond to merry old England. I'm baffled to see reviews comparing Pete's authentic battered dip cod to fast food!! Cor Blimey - Absolutely not!! As a British family I can assure you that is far from the truth. Pete's recipes are a little taste of home. From the fish & chicken & chips, to the sausage rolls and pasties and pies. All are enough to make your mouth water just thinking of them. The chips are cut perfectly and authentic as well, as any Brit will tell you. Lining the shelves are tasty treats from the Motherland, (but clean your plate first!) and there is a cooler filled with English beers on offer as well. And yes, there is a Pete, who hails from Manchester, England. He greets his guests jovially and enjoys cooking up his fare for his customers to enjoy. God Save Pete's Fish & Chips!

Excellent fish and chips very friendly owners can't say enough. Their menu is going in to our rental house so that my guests can enjoy as well. Have to go back and try the pasties and meat pies

I love this place and recommend it to everyone to try. The owners are so friendly, they always remember us and our daughter. We are moving away now and the last place in the cape we went was Pete's because we would miss it so much.

Fish was very good. Shrimp was excellent. However the chips need to be crispier. Fresh potatoes need to be double fried to crisp up. Overall outstanding quality and great service.

Fish very good, only problem batter a little soggy. You need to leave the package open so the steam can escape. Good size portion.

  • Sandy G.

Really, with all the wonderful fish restaurants in this area, Pete's is not it. It is the deep frying that is good, the fish is actually pretty tasteless. Expensive and fried. Not a combo I like. Oh yeah, and the chips are frozen french fries. Anywhere else, Petes would be called "Long John Silvers or Captain D's.

  • Richard B.

Nice people the fried fish was ok The cole slaw was dry and tasteless McDonald's Fries are better You self serve tipping isn't necessary Thirstys Fish fry is much Better

My Dad, sister and I ate there last night for the first time. We LOVE fish and chips and have been looking for a decent place since my Dad moved here in 2002. Always have been disappointed but we were all so happy with Pete's. From the moment we walked in, the staff was warm and friendly, explained their ordering process and menu well and made us feel at home. We ordered "small fish" which means the thinner part of the fillet (the regular is the thicker part), and one shrimp dinner so we could try it. The fish was perfectly cooked, not greasy and flakey white meat. Chips were thick and good, coleslaw could have used a bit more seasoning and more liquid but it was okay. The shrimp was more heavily breaded than the fish which my Dad didn't care for but my sister and I loved it. The shrimp sauce was outstanding and we loved that the tartar sauce was on the table and we didn't have to keep asking for more like in most places. We even liked that they had a water dispenser where we could refill our own cups with chilled, bottled water., Even though it was busy, when we were walking out the door they stopped to say thank you as if they really cared that we stopped by, a rarity in small restaurants today. We are so happy to have found this place.

amazing authentic British fish and chips, well worth a detour for a decent meal for 2 under $20. say hi to Pete from Manchester! He also has a small selection of Brit foods and amazing pies.Get in early before he sells out.

We went to Pete's on a suggestion of a friend. Greeted by Pete himself, was a pleasure as he walked us through the limited menu. Fish and chips, chicken and chips. The fish is fresh Cod not manufactured square pieces of fish . Large or small filet. I opted for the small and my goodness ,it was more than enough. Fresh, crispy, tastey. Pete also does the cooking. Simple ,pleasant, take out or if you wish you can eat in. Self service. Will definetly return for more fresh fish. Cole slaw and fries were tastey also!

Glad I finally stopped in here! I've driven by this place for some time now, and meant to check it out. Today was the day. My father and I each ordered different items. I had the shrimp, and he had the fish. The shrimp are large and flavorful. The fish was excellent. Flaky, and tasted very fresh. It's all fried, but it's not too heavy. The danger is in the "Chips". They are outstanding! Absolutely some of the best I've ever had. My father was very pleased, and we will definitely be back to Pete's. They also have a nice selection of treats from the U.K. It's all very good.

The fish is delicious and is served with fries and served with old London newspaper. When you get your fish, you have to try the tartar sauce! Strong and friendly British background too!

Came in here on a hunch from Yell reviews and I wasn't disappointed. I got the shrimp and chips with a side of fish. The shrimp were large and delicious and the chips were amazing. I only had two problems, the coleslaw was awful and the single fish to taste was $7 but other than that, it was delicious. I'd definitely recommend it for the fish or shrimp.

Solid fish and chips spot. I'm in from New York and was in the mood for some fried fish so the future mrs. looked this place up and we ended up here....food is great, service is good, and ambience is comfortable. We will come back.

Overall a good meal of fish and chips. A bit greasy but that's par for the course. Friendly service. A bit pricey for the fare. $25 for two with soda.

Mom-in-law took me to lunch here for my Bday. I got to pick the spot. I chose Pete's but had never been. KILLER fish and chips and big shrimp! Super friendly people! I told my wife about it and she just took my two sons w/ mom-in-law. My 8 and 6 year old love fish and I just heard Pete did NOT disappoint. Really busy place but there's obviously a reason for that like most good places to grub casually.

Excellent fish and chips with friendly service to go with it... This place is one of a kind and definitely worth checking out! Food is delicious, so get the regular order (not the small order) because you're going to want more... Already craving another order of fish and chips, will be back soon!

Spot on fish and chips, shrimp, and chicken! Everything was fantastic and on your way out they have pasty meat pies freshly made. I haven't found anywhere to get better fried fare in the Cape. Pete's rocks!

We crave Pete's fish and huge shrimp when we are not in Florida. It is the first meal we get when we arrive in town. Ask for two coleslaw because the containers are too small. If you like beer, then try the Boddingtons beer from England. Pete's is better than anything I found in London.

  • Eric N.

This place is the real deal. Only problem is that it is so popular that there is usually a line up and it is hard to get a seat. Fish and chips are done perfectly and the selection of English beers (did not taste skunky unlike elsewhere) is a pleasant surprise. Also do not miss the selection of English candies, etc. for sale. Found a few things from my Childhood (in Canada) that I had not seen in 30 years.

Been looking for good fish and chips, and finally found them. The fish was fresh, tasty, white and flaky (non-seafoody tasting) - absolutely scrumptious! The batter was crisp and thin beer batter crust - not doughy. LOVED IT and you will too! Very quaint diner, excellent service - fast and with smiles. The place and grills were extremely clean - you can tell they take pride in their food and customers. They serve beer and wine. They displayed several English grocery items for sale - can't wait to try the gravy granules. You will not be disappointed! People were pulling up after they closed their doors saying they come here all the time. They serve classic british specials like meat pies, etc. The reviews on this website helped. Enjoy!

After seeing Pete's for more than a year, I finally went in, and couldn't have been happier. I wish I went there sooner. The service/employee's were fantastic, and the fish was exactly what I am used to when I want fish and chips, so now I know where to go. Frozen or not the chips were good too and this is the style I received in other "British Style" restaurants. I am a cole slaw fanatic, and I thought the cole slaw was just kind of boring to me, but I am just being objective. I know a lot of people like this type of cole slaw. We will be back many times over! * I had to come and edit this review from a 4 to 5 star. The cole slaw isn't worth giving it 4 stars. After finally trying Pete's, I can't get enough.

THIS IS THE AUTHENTIC FISH & CHIPS HOUSE. The Icelandic Cod plank sized portion that came with sizable potato sticks, not skinny fries and GET THIS really good cole slaw, creamy, fresh, and snappy! Has a shelf also of things vedy British for sale. Across Del Prado from the Hess gas station just south of Hancock UPDATE July 22, 2013 A King is born! God Save the Queen!

I love this place! I don't usually like fish, but this place makes the best fish ever! They even serve your food in the newspaper style just like in England! The fish is battered to a golden brown color, its flaky on the outside and tender white fish on the inside. The owners our English and are super nice! Love, love love!

Best fish & chips in the part of the US, bar none! Service is always fast and friendly. It is a small place but a great place. Have eaten here several time and will be back soon.

Ok so this place would have gotta 5 stars but. But experience was pretty good food was nice and hot ! Tasted great !!!! My little boy seemed to have a good time... the employees seemed friendly ...but my problem was with the customers. So me and my bf went there about 3 4 a clock when alot of regulars seemed to be coming in we where sitting right across from the counter a older couple came in made comments that there table was gone me and my bf didn't think anything of it until they basically stood there and Waited for us to leave I wouldn't have a issue but when we started to throw are trash and what not away they tured around and signaled for someone to clean the table it seems like they could barley wait for us to get are baby away first. All and all the food is great the employees are nice but I will be ordering it to go for now on .... very uncomfortable. Also the older gentleman behind me seemed to get very annoyed when my son droped his toy made a loud noise. Its nice the have regulars but the new comers feel very weird

I went here with my son and hubby. We ordered two large and one regular sized fish and chips. The regular was just fine for me and the two large were actually too large for the two men. It Was DELICIOUS! Very flavorful and very generous portions. would recommend to anyone!!

Great fish. Definitely one of the best I have had. I'm not the biggest fish fan, but do like a good fish and chips. All positive comments on here are accurate. My husband had the shrimp, chicken, and fish combo and absolutely loved it. If you are in the area it's worth the stop.

I was a regular customer at Brit's in Minneapolis ( unrelated business to Pete's in Cape Coral ) ; where I got hooked on the MUSHY green peas, which have similar texture to hummus, but with the flavor of green peas. I WAS ADDICTED TO MUSHY IN ANOTHER CITY, so I was initially put off by the fact that Pete's does not sell MUSHY :( However, I did eat the Fish + Chips (about $ 10 ) . I did it twice over a span of a couple month. Both times, I had a mouthwatering craving for it. Right now, I am waiting for my craving to hit. Personally, I can handle greasy food in my own stomach, so it's hard fo me to say if it is "too greasy" or not. I do appreciate the large amount of fish they give you, so the batter does not dominate the fish itself, as other people mentioned.

Finally, my wife and I found the best fish n chips restaurant in Cape Coral! Clean, affordable and excellent food! Staff is very friendly and a quaint eating area. Definitely worth going to and checking this awesome restaurant out!

Not greasy for a fried food, lightly battered with a great flake to it. This is one of my favorites in Fort Myers, clean, welcoming, delightful, and always very tasteful! NON Farmed fish, wild caught North Atlantic cod and the biggest shrimp I've ever seen. For the price this is differently right!

Delicious. The fish is so good I was talking about it DAYS after leaving. Friendly staff and very clean, and comforting atmosphere!

When you go back a second time over a year later and the food and service are just as good then you know you have a winner!!!!! Took the 2 hour drive from Tampa for a quick business trip and stopped by Pete's for Fish, shrimp and chips and was not dissappointed. Still the best we have found in Florida. Keep up the good work Pete and crrew.
